Chapter 16:  Battle... begin!

A/N: Here's where we start getting into the main portion of the story!  Hope you enjoy it!  I don't think this one is as interesting as the others, but it's still pretty good if I do say so myself. :)

The girls and I walked into the Canterlot High auditorium.  Everyone was ironically calm, but that wasn't going to last very long.  Celestia and Luna walked out onto the stage, both holding a microphone.  We heard the mic come on.

"Welcome to the first ever Canterlot High School Battle of the Bands!" Celestia said.  "I believe I speak for everyone when I say it is by far the greatest thing we've ever done at this school!"

    The students cheered loudly.

"We are so glad our three newest students encouraged us to turn this event into something exciting!" Celestia continued.

I tossed my bangs with my hand.

    You're welcome, Canterlot High.

Luna began speaking.  "But as this is now a competition, we can only choose one winner.  Who is it going to be?" she said.

    The students began bickering.

I flexed my arms and smiled with satisfaction as the negative energy snaked its way into my pendant.

"You feel that girls?" I said.  "Our true power is being restored."

Sonata and, ironically enough, Aria began giggling.

I saw the Rainbooms walk in and I motioned for the girls to be quiet using my hands.  "And that's before we've tapped into the strongest magic here," I continued.

"But the Rainblossoms, or whatever they're called, aren't under our spell.  How exactly are we supposed to get to their magic?" Aria protested.

This is why she isn't leader; she gives up too easily.  But I knew a way to get to the Rainbooms' magic.

"The Rainbooms are just as capable of falling apart as anyone else.  They just need a little... push in the wrong direction."

I gestured 'push' with my hand.

"I have a feeling everyone here is going to be lining up to give them a shove."

Celestia spoke to announce the rules.  "Alright everyone, settle down so we may go over the rules."

The bickering students settled down when they heard her voice.

"Thank you," she said.  "Alright, here's how things work:  Each band will play against another band each round and based upon your performance, Luna and I will choose who advances to the next round."

Ugh.  Okay, as if that wasn't obvious; just announce the first two bands already! I thought.

"The first two bands to take the stage will be Snips and Snails versus the Rainbooms," Luna said.

I wished it had been us, but I didn't mind.  Snips and Snails looked like a couple of bumbling idiots anyway, so their performance ought to be amusing.

The duo took the stage and began beat-boxing poorly.  Aria and I had to cover our mouths so no one could hear us giggling.  This was definitely the most amusing, most pathetic performance I'd ever seen.

They both looked and sounded ridiculous.  They thought they could rap?  Please.

When the idiotic duo was done performing, they dropped their microphones which created an ear-splitting screech.  The girls and I rushed to cover our ears.  Ouch.  Despite the horrible noise, Luna and Celestia looked completely unaffected.

"Please do not drop the microphones," Celestia said sternly.

The stupid pair of clowns (Snips and Snails) exited the stage.

"Next up is the Rainbooms," Celestia announced rather flatly.

The Rainbooms took the stage with a few of their members looking less than confident.  They set up their instruments and began singing together.  They were decent, I had to admit.  But they weren't nearly as good as us.

A young red haired girl slumped up against her bandmates.  "Boring," she said.

The pink, puffy haired member of the Rainbooms kicked one of her drums, causing it to release confetti.  Despite this interruption, she still seemed to be focused on the song.

A member of an opposing band (I believe the band is called the Snapshots) dropped down a few magnets which latched onto the Rainbooms' keytar player's metallic fringes, lifting her up off the ground.  They moved her around, having her crash into everything.  She accidentally swatted off the hat of the Rainbooms' bassist.

A few minutes later the indigo haired girl accidentally swallowed a piece of confetti and began coughing.  The pastel pink haired member of the band smacked the other girl with her tambourine causing the confetti to come out.

Snips and Snails went up to a backstage area and began messing around with the stage lights.  They shined it directly on the Rainbooms' tambourine player.  She immediately panicked and began running from the light.

The performance was becoming a disaster.  When the keytar player was finally able to free herself from the magnets, her sleeves had been ripped off in the process.  She gasped, then got down on her knees and began crying.  Soon after, the song ended.

Despite what a disaster the performance had been, Celestia and Luna were impressed.  They began clapping.  Well, it goes without saying that the Rainbooms were better than Snips and Snails.

"The next band to take the stage will be Derpy and her band," Luna announced.

Derpy took the stage alongside a couple of other eccentric girls.  She began playing a... saw?  Okay then, things just got really weird.

I saw the Rainbooms walking out of the auditorium.

"Girls, let's go," I said, getting up from my seat.

Aria and Sonata got up from their seats and followed me down the bleachers.

I wanted to watch over the Rainbooms.

It was important that I kept an eye on the Rainbooms.  I wanted to find all of their weak points.  I might use those weak points to my advantage, should I need to handle things myself.

The indigo haired girl seemed to be discussing matters with her bandmates.  "I don't think we should use a classroom."

She bumped into the blue haired guitarist from one of the opposing bands and gave a nervous chuckle.

"We really need to stop bumping into each other like this."

The boy exchanged glances with his bandmates.

"Uh, did you guys hear something?" he said.

Ooh, ignorance?  Things just got interesting... I thought.

"Uhh-uhh," one of the bandmates said.

    "Aw nope," the other said.

The indigo haired girl repeated herself a bit louder.

"I said, we have to stop—" the blue haired boy cut her off mid-sentence.

"There it is again," he said.  "So annoying."  The girl looked confused.

"Why are you acting like this?" she asked.  "I thought we were friends."

"Yeah, and then you decide to come back here just so you can beat me in the Battle of the Bands," the boy said.  "I want this, Twilight, and you're trying to take it from me!  Some friend."

"That not why–" Twilight was cut off mid-sentence by the bassist in her band.

"Come on, Twilight.  We've got things to do," the Rainboom's bassist said.

She and Twilight began walking off.

"You really think you're gonna help them?!" the boy exclaimed.  "Ha!  I bet you have no idea what you're doing!"

Twilight began crying and I couldn't help but to chuckle to myself.  "Tears already?" I sneered.  "This is only the first round."

    Aria and Sonata began laughing.

    The intercom came on.

"The next band to take the stage will be Trixie and the Illusions," Celestia announced via the intercom.  "Better head back," I said.  "We're supposed to go on after Trixie."

We began walking down the hallway.

"So, since the cute blue haired guitar player was being a jerk to that other girl, do you think that means I could like, go out with him?" Sonata said.

    "Maybe," I said.

    "Don't care," Aria said.

"He's probably the worst, like you," she remarked.

We continued down the hall.  I noticed someone watching us from the darker part of the corridor and I motioned for the girls to stop.  I gazed at the figure warily.  Upon closer look I realized the figure watching us was Sunset Shimmer
